  • Will physiotherapy be able to help my problem?
    We want to acknowledge that you may be unsure whether physiotherapy or our other services will be able to meet your needs. We encourage you to contact our office and our experienced physiotherapist will ensure all your questions about our services in answered adequately. We pride ourselves on helping patients who have been seeking help in other places and still unable to find a solution for their healthcare needs. We welcome the opportunity to assess your condition thoroughly and help you decide on the most effective and efficient way to help you get better.
  • Do you accept insurance coverage?
    If you have an employer or family member with extended health benefits that cover you or you were involved in an automobile accident, there is a great likelihood that your treatment would be paid for. If you are using extended health benefits, ensure you check the details of your coverage in your Extended Health Manual, or speak with your Human Resources department. For your convenience, we can now bill directly to most insurance companies. If for any reason, the application for coverage is declined, you will be responsible to pay us directly and seek a refund from your insurance provider.
  • Do you accept patients under OHIP?
    We do not provide Physiotherapy covered by OHIP. OHIP physiotherapy is available to patients who are under 18 or over 65 years of age and/or have had a related overnight stay in a hospital in Ontario. Patients that need OHIP coverage must attend a clinic that specifically provides OHIP physiotherapy.
  • Do you accept patients under WSIB?
    We accept patients directly through the WSIB program. However, any claimant needs to obtain approval to get physiotherapist care at Cogent. During the wait period, you will need to pay for your appointments directly, and later reimbursed through WSIB. Kindly, contact us for advice on working through the WSIB approval process.
  • Do I need a doctor's referral before booking a physiotherapy appointment?
    No, a referral is not required to participate in physiotherapy treatment. However, we advice all patients to refer to the details of their extended health benefits because some health plans may require a physician’s referral before treatment costs can be reimbursed.
  • What happens during my appointments?
    During your initial consultation, your physiotherapist will conduct an interview and a detailed physical evaluation. This will be followed immediately by some treatment to ensure begin to benefit as soon as possible from your experience. The treatment you receive would depend on the condition you present with and may include any of the following: education about your condition, how to optimize recovery, manual therapy (hands on treatment), use of modalities (e.g. electrical stimulation, ultrasound, acupuncture), and a therapeutic exercise program.
  • How should I present to the clinic for my appointments?
    We encourage all Cogent patients to wear clothing appropriate to the type and area of body they are seeking physiotherapy for. Shorts with a t-shirt or tank top is preferable. Please, bring along to the appointment, all test reports or other medical documentation that you deem relevant to your condition. Feel free to bring along any accessories believe is related to your problem. For example, specific footwear, backpacks/bags, earlier pictures of your injury if it has been a while since you suffered the injury, your work station, exercise programs from other healthcare professionals. We ask that you please arrive 15 minutes early to complete your intake forms. You also need to bring along your extended health benefits card to assist us in billing your insurance company for your visit. If you are seeking physiotherapy for an automobile-related condition, we will need the name and contact information of your case manager, your claim number, and extended health benefits information.
  • How soon can I get an appointment?
    We ensure all patients get booked to see a physiotherapist within 24H to 48H.
  • Do you accept patients under Automobile Insurance?
    We accept patients who have claims through through auto insurance. Kindly, bring along your claim number, insurance adjuster’s contact information, and any other relevant information to your initial appointment.
  • What is your clinic's cancellation policy?
    We require 24 hours notice for the cancellation of your appointment, otherwise a $50 charge will apply.
  • What is the parking situation if I want to attend an appointment?
    There is free and ample parking at the back of the building. Patient can also park on Claridge street adjacent to New Street.
  • How long does a treatment session take and how many sessions do I need?
    Any new physiotherapy patient assessment is usually booked for 1 hour for all physical rehabilitation services except for burn rehabilitation which may take up to 2 hours (one session or two 1-hour sessions). Your initial consultation will allow your therapist obtain the necessary information to properly assess your problem, determine a prognosis, and create a treatment plan. Your therapist will discuss this with you at your initial assessment. Follow up treatments range from 30-minutes to 45-minutes to 60-minutes depending on the treatment plan. All appointment times are one-on-one with your physiotherapist. Please, note that a small portion of your appointment time will be spent on session planning and documentation. With regards to the number of sessions you’ll need, this would be determined by your condition. All patients will be assessed individually.
