What is Orthopaedic Physiotherapy?
Orthopaedic physiotherapy refers to the process of restoring function to the musculoskeletal system after an injury, surgery, or disease. It usually requires a combination of therapies, exercises, and medical interventions aimed at improving strength, flexibility, and mobility in muscles, bones, joints, tendons, and ligaments. The goal of orthopaedic physiotherapy is to help the patient return to the highest level of function and independence possible, while improving the overall quality of life - physically, emotionally, and socially.

Orthopaedic physiotherapy programs may include the following:

What type of conditions are managed in Orthopaedic Physiotherapy?
Several conditions can benefit from orthopaedic physiotherapy including:

Post-Surgical procedures including post total knee and hip replacement, shoulder replacement, knee arthroscopy, ligament reconstruction, or fracture repair, tendon repair and open reduction internal fixation for fractures.

Musculoskeletal conditions: such as anterior cruciate ligament tears, rotator cuff tendinopathy, meniscus tears of the knee, lateral or medial epicondylalgia (tennis or golfers elbow), Achilles tendon strain, patellofemoral pain syndrome and hip labral tears.

What can I expect during Cogent Orthopaedic Physiotherapy Program?
At your first visit you will spend an hour with your physiotherapist in a private setting. During this session you can expect the following:

A comprehensive history of your current problem and your overall health.

Some physical testing to determine any other factors that may be contributing to your complaint.

Assessment of current level of function and symptoms to ensure tracking of your progress.
